There are 2 different 4 bedroom layouts at Grand Solmar Cabo. 7701 is one of the original designs, and 2701 is one of the newer designs. Both have 2 king bedrooms and 2 queen bedrooms, private pool, private hot tub, and full sized kitchens. The decks are enormous, and warp around the entire building. Each bedroom has and sliding glass… Read more →
Here is the latest update from Solmar. It looks like there is still a great deal of work to be done, and I find it highly unlikely there will be an opening in 2017. Main Entrance Construction of the main entrance is quite an undertaking. Workers have clearly moved tons of sand and removed lots of desert brush in order… Read more →
This is question I see frequently asked across various Cabo related forums, and given I’ve used every conceivable method, I thought I’d provide as much information as I could on the topic. I think it’s important to preface my take on this topic with one very tenet of my travel philosophy… The moment wheels hit the ground I want to be… Read more →
This page about Rancho San Lucas will be updated as more construction details emerge. What is Rancho San Lucas? Announced in September 2015, with ground breaking in December of that same year, Rancho San Lucas is Solmar’s latest creation; a master planned community spanning an 835 acre plot of undeveloped, gorgeous of beach, just north of Cabo San Lucas. Rancho… Read more →
This is a question I see asked on TripAdvisor quite frequently. Honestly, at least in the areas I frequent, I feel safer in Cabo at night than I do in Seattle or Los Angeles. Given my experiences, I thought it would be interesting to try and dig up some real data to back-up / disprove my instincts! US State Department… Read more →
My Favorite Street Tacos in Cabo – Tacos Guss Easily one of the most common food questions I get about Cabo is, where to get the best street tacos. For my money, except for Javier’s tacos de camarones, this distinguished title has to go to Tacos Guss. The combination of quality, quantity, selection, price, flavor, and ambiance is really tough… Read more →
Our Triumphant Post Odile Return to Grand Solmar As many of you know, we were at Grand Solmar when hurricane Odile hit Cabo. I wrote about it and posted our video in our review of the Grand Solmar Resort. Our last memory of this beautiful resort was of the destruction of the infinity pools and the B buildings on the… Read more →
Pool Location & View
Grand Solmar is home to some of the most amazing infinity pools anywhere in the world. Las Brisas is located in the central portion of the “VIP” buildings of the resort. These are building G, H,and I. it is the rightmost pool in the picture to the left.
The pool is located so close the the ocean that, during storms, you can almost dunk your hand into the ocean. The pool is located in such a way that you get the sunlight from just after sunrise, almost to sunset.
The pool has it’s on swim up pool bar, which also has it’s own covered deck where you can order breakfast, lunch, and dinner from the Las Brisas restaurant, which is right behind the pool bar.
Obviously the view at Las Brisas is as untouchable and magnificent as the other infinity pools at Grand Solmar. I can’t say enough about Grand Solmar’s location, it is simply the best location in Cabo, and up there with any other resort in the world.
Lounge Chairs, Umbrellas, and End Tables
This topic seems to be the subject of the most controversy, perhaps in all of resort travel, which I don’t quite understand. Grand Solmar has a very reasonable policy surrounding holding pool chairs with towel. The policy is simply, your seat will be checked every hour, and if you’re gone for more than an hour, your towel will be removed. This allows for a couple to come out in the morning, save their seats, go have a nice breakfast, come back, and retain their seats. On a personal note, we know who comes out at 9AM and tries to hold a chair until they return at noon. Frankly, as an owner, I’ll remove the towels of people who do this myself.
The good news is, this past week, Grand Solmar was 100% full, and finding a shaded lounge chair was doable at all of the infinity pools, although the front row seats did fill up fairly quickly. Las Brisas has plenty of seating available for the size of the pool.
The swim up bar and restaurant at Las Brisas is fantastic. Our favorite bar tender this trip was Fernando, who makes a mean Cadillac margarita. To be honest, the only two things I ever drink in the pool are bloody marrys and Cadillac margaritas, and they are both quite good, no matter who is tending bar. The bar has a great selection of premium and ultra premium liquor, fresh juices, and high quality mixers.
It also has a great restaurant. Our favorite dishes are the pico de gallo, guacamole, Baja shrimp tacos, and you must get the Serranito!
Serranito is a sashimi preparation of frsh ahi tuna, thinly sliced, with a ginger / soy marinade, finished with hot (sorta) Serrano chilies.
The bar service, and pool side service is fantastic, but here’s a trick to ensure the best pool experience possible. Tip big, with cash, up front! I promise you this will be the best money you spend on your trip!
Normally when we write a restaraunt review, we attempt to blend in a feeling of the environment, the service, and the food. For Maria Corona, we decided to skip the fanfare and get straight to the point. You MUST try the Pork Yucateco! Restaurant & Location Maria Corona is conveniently located just off the beaten path in town down Cabo… Read more →
